Are the crochet patterns on All About Crochet really free?

Yes. Every pattern, tutorial, stitch guide and tool on the site is free to use, with no sign-up, and most patterns can also be downloaded as a free PDF.

I have never crocheted before. Where should I start?

Start with the free lesson on your first stitches, then make the six beginner projects in order: a chain stitch bracelet, a single crochet dishcloth, a half double crochet ear warmer, a double crochet bookmark, a round coaster and a striped mug cozy. Each one adds a single new skill.

What yarn and hook should a beginner buy?

A smooth, light-colored medium-weight yarn (weight #4 in the Craft Yarn Council’s Standard Yarn Weight System, often labeled worsted) and a 5 mm (US H-8) hook. Light colors make your stitches much easier to see while you learn.

Do your patterns use US or UK crochet terms?

All patterns use US terms. UK patterns give the same stitches different names — a US single crochet is a UK double crochet — and the US vs UK crochet terms guide lists every equivalent.

Have the patterns been tested?

Every pattern shows its testing status. Stitch counts and measurements are checked before publishing, and patterns that have not yet been made from the written instructions are clearly labeled Not yet tested.

Yes. You can sell finished items you make from our free patterns, and a credit to All About Crochet is appreciated. Please don’t copy, share or sell the pattern text, images or PDFs.
