Free crochet tool
US ↔ UK Crochet Terms Converter
Paste instructions and convert stitch names between US and UK crochet terms.
Always double-check. The converter changes stitch names and common terms only. It doesn’t change hook sizes, yarn weights or special stitches a designer defines, and everyday words like “miss” may be converted too.
How to use it
- 1
Choose whether your pattern is written in US or UK terms.
- 2
Paste the instructions into the left box.
- 3
Copy the converted text and double-check any special stitches the designer defines.
How it works
UK stitch names are one step “taller” than US names for the same stitch: a US single crochet is a UK double crochet, a US double crochet is a UK treble, and so on. The converter replaces stitch names, their abbreviations and a few common terms in a single pass, longest phrases first, so nothing is converted twice. See the full US vs UK terms guide.
Common questions
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser.
Does it convert hook sizes?
No. Millimeter hook sizes are the same everywhere; check the hook size chart for letter and number sizes.
