How it works
The calculator subtracts the border from each side, then divides the remaining width and length by your square size, rounding to the nearest whole square. Because squares only come in whole numbers, the actual finished size is shown so you can decide whether to add or remove a row.
Common questions
Does joining add to the size?
Slightly, depending on the joining method. For flat joins it is usually negligible; for joins that add a round, include it in your square measurement.
How do I work out yarn for a granny square blanket?
Weigh one finished square, multiply by the number of squares and add the border — or use the yarn quantity estimator.
